Abstract

On January 13, 2022, community service activities were carried out in the form of providing materials and checking blood sugar and materials on Prevention of Diabetes Mellitus from an Early Age which was attended by 40 students of Madrasah Aliyah Muhammadiyah and 10 teachers and school staff. Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease that has an increasing prevalence in developing countries. One of the risk factors for DM is age 45 years or younger, especially with a BMI > 23 kg/m2. The purpose of this activity is to provide knowledge about diabetes, its signs and symptoms, how to avoid it and the drugs needed. This activity began with the provision of material and a question and answer session, then blood pressure and blood sugar checks. From the results of the sugar check, there were several students and teachers who experienced high blood sugar. Based on the results of the examination of the students of Madrasah Aliyah Muhammadiyah Bontorita Galesong Selatan, the number of students who have high blood sugar levels is about 20%. This service activity can be accepted by students and teachers because the material presented is useful and necessary material for early prevention of diabetes mellitus. To increase students' awareness about the importance of preventing diabetes mellitus from an early age, it is better if educational activities like this are carried out by local health workers at least 2 times a year.
